Criticizing Takes Time Away from Creating

If the most you do is criticize someone else’s work, it’s likely that the criticism does little for making your own work better.

All the energy, time, attention, creativity, and emotion that goes into criticizing, into trying to justify why something isn’t worth paying attention to (while we are ironically paying attention to it in order to do so), is more often a waste than not. And that’s a trap you don’t want to fall into.

All the time, attention, and energy that is wasted criticizing others’ work would have served everyone else more if it had been spent on creating better work yourself.

Unless you’re paid to criticize, unless it’s your profession, you’re likely losing money, time, opportunities, and growth.

Pointing out what’s bad may be the start of making things better, but it rarely makes things better on its own.
