Getting “in the mood”

When you’re trying to spice things up, you can light a scented candle, turn the lights down low, and put on a playlist. What was previously a normal moment is now burning with desire.

Before a big basketball game, players will stretch, run a couple of lay-ups, take shots from specific spots around the court. Maybe there will be a couple of misses, but those misses motivate one to calibrate their aim and their follow-through. Suddenly, what was a 50% field goal percentage increased up to 78%.

Whether it’s heating things up or warming up, there are actions that can be taken to change how we feel about the work. Because the regular reality is that we don’t always feel like doing something. Even activities like getting intimate in the bedroom, what you would assume is intrinsically desirable, requires a rekindling of the flame.

Discover your own ritual. Construct your own series of actions to help you go from “tired” and “maybe another night” to “I want this now.”

Doing so and implementing it can help us become more consistent to be the Professional we aspire to be and our audience deserves from us.
