It’s tempting to dream of a future milestone where, once reached, our baseline happiness is forever elevated and past pains can no longer reach us.
Milestones are few and far between. By definition, they’re miles apart.
What’s available to us now, though, are moments.
If the point of reaching a milestone is so that the moments that follow will be more enjoyable, more exciting, more fulfilling, why not embrace each moment with that same attitude, anticipation, and feeling?
We strive for milestones so that we may have many greater moments in our life. But in our daily lives, we can also strive for greater moments, to get lost in them before they are lost forever.
